I confronted you
As dying men confront
The necessity of death

You know, I confronted you
With not a hope of victory
And not a chance
Of a positive result

I simply stood
And stared at you
And waited
For the next move

And you glared at me
And I was certain
You were not so scared
As I had thought you’d be
By hopelessness
In resistance

The first blow came as no surprise
Nor the second, nor the third
And then, when I was down and
Drifting between consciousness
And some strange other place
I was surprised
That you kept kicking, punching
Trying to eradicate
The stain
Of hopeless resistance
From your wounded pride.

About dcduell

Failed musician. Trying to write for TV. Never sure quite where I'm headed. Serial un-funnyman. I used to do a lot of writing. Sometimes I still do. So I decided to put it on the internet. I'm on Facebook and Twitter. Pretty active on the former, not so much on the latter. Holler at me.
